my pursuit of living a life imagined—at sea, gracefully, always evolving
My dream is to change it up and try a life of cruising. Passing time sailing from port to port free of hurried obligations or weighty possessions appeals to me in so many ways. Completing a circumnavigation would be beyond amazing but it’s not my aspiration. There are plenty of fantastic destinations in the world’s largest ocean that happens to be my backyard. From here or there, I can go anywhere.
The endeavor is to realize the dream, to set myself up to sustain the lifestyle for a few years without constraints. Original plan was to be ready in 2015. Alas, life got in the way and the new target is no later than Spring of 2018. Getting Onyx ready will be much easier than funding the cruising kitty and finding a cruising partner…
The boat is Onyx, a 1986 Tayana 37 cutter and a classic, forgiving blue water cruiser. She is a black-hulled beauty and a Panama Canal veteran ready for another odyssey at sea. I feel so fortunate to have found her and vow to take great care of her as I know she will of me.
The crew is the coolest cat, Jake, and yours truly. I hope friends and fellow lovers of the sea will join as crew for the passages or meet up in ports of call.
I imagine pretty grand adventures in store.
